Trans 101: Intro to Trans Identities & Inclusion

​Join Schuyler Bailar, trans athlete, educator, and author of He/She/They: How We Talk About Gender and Why It Matters, for an insightful event exploring transgender identities and experiences, where he will cover essential terminology and best practices for respectful conversations around the transgender community. This session will emphasize the importance of understanding and allyship, particularly in today’s complex social and political landscape.

The Ordinary Joy of Trans Spirituality

Panel Discussion | 10:00 am | Room 104

This interfaith panel dicussion will focus on the everyday, ordinary, and mundane joys of being trans and spiritual. Panelists will discuss how trans joy and celebration can happen outside of rupture-based cycles of crisis and transcendence, instead stabilizing and grounding trans people and communities for the sustainable long haul project of living fully.

Health and Housing Equity on Campus; a Higher Education Climate Report

Join us for an engaging, hour-long interactive session with Dr. AC Goldberg (he/him), creator of the groundbreaking SAFE-Trans Housing Extension (SAFE-THE). During this talk, AC will unveil a new, eye-opening climate report on the state of trans equity in higher education. After successfully piloting SAFE-THE across 42 campuses nationwide, the path to improving trans student experiences in college healthcare and housing is clearer than ever. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their own stories and insights about accessing healthcare and housing on their campuses, fostering a rich, inclusive dialogue on how we can make institutions more equitable for all.

The Path from Sexwork to Housing

Join Chastity Bowick, an award-winning activist, civil rights leader, and transgender health advocate, as she shares powerful personal experiences from her journey as a Black Trans Woman. As a survivor of sex-work, domestic violence and homelessness she will share how to navigate through the system of oppression. This workshop will breakdown the barriers Transgender communities face while trying to simply live and survive! 

Both, And: Caring for Transgender-Intersex Patients

The transgender and intersex communities are intertwined in our advocacy, in our lived experiences, and our treatment within the healthcare system. Although the care trans and intersex patients need is intertwined, the needs of each community are distinct. Gender-affirming healthcare does not cover all health needs of the intersex community, and intersex care does not meet the needs of the trans community. In this session, participants will learn about the different health needs of transgender patients and intersex patients, as well as care for patients who are both transgender and intersex.

Queer Indigenous Perspectives: The Power of Care

This panel will bring together queer, trans, and Two-spirit Indigenous voices to explore the deep connections between identity, community, and collective well-being. Panelists will discuss the role of care as resistance, healing, and empowerment, sharing insights into how Indigenous traditions and queer identities intersect to foster resilience and strength.

Binaries, Disability Policy, and Transing as a Method Towards Equity

Kris King (they/he) | 1:00 pm | Room 105

Explore the limitations of binary labels like "high-functioning" and "low-functioning" in understanding disability policy. Kris, an autistic and trans nonbinary person who is a recent Harvard grad, will use neurodiversity and disability studies, along with feminist theory, to challenge these binaries. Relevant to psychology, education, social work, and disability studies, this session includes personal narratives and practical strategies for fostering inclusive, accurate perceptions of disability and transness, especially Autism studies.

In our most popular event from previous years, we're back! Join older trans+ folks of a myriad of backgrounds, experiences, professional careers, and trans+ journeys in an intimate closed space open only to those in the trans+ community.

Administrative Allyship and Trans Inclusion in Higher Education

At colleges and universities, Trans+ allyship happens far beyond a campus simply having an LGBTQ+ center. This panel of administrators will discuss their methods for successful advocacy work to support Trans+ people in higher education.

Transforming Trans Health: Building Bridges for Systems Change

Ivan Hsiao (he/she/they) | 3:00 pm | Cinema

Ivan Hsiao is the Founder of Trans Health HQ, an organization developing the largest resource hub of information on trans care for clinicians and patients, and nurturing an international, cross-sector collective of leaders advancing the field of transgender health – all with the end goal of creating an online platform connecting the trans community with affirming providers. Ivan also teaches the trans health seminar and conducts research on trans youth’s mental health at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.

Drawing on their expertise in scholarship and entrepreneurship in the field of trans health, Ivan will cover key trends in trans health research and major unmet needs in the field, an overview of systems-level solutions to date, and how this informs the development of Trans Health HQ’s intervention. The audience will learn about how this award-winning organization mobilized resources and power across sectors, understand their key challenges and successes to date, and discover ways to engage with the largest resource hub and cross-sector collective in the field of trans health. There will also be ample time for community members to provide feedback on Trans Health HQ, and share what quality healthcare means to them.

Experts will discuss key legislation, policy shifts, and court cases that shape the lives of trans people, offering insights into both current obstacles and potential avenues for advocacy and change.

Reclaiming Space: Trans POC Power

Join us for a dynamic panel featuring trans people of color who will share their personal experiences and perspectives on navigating the intersections of race and trans identity. Panelists will discuss challenges and triumphs in claiming visibility, safety, and joy, offering insights into the unique resilience and power of trans POC communities.

The presentation will cover the explosive growth of the trans rights movement, the election outcomes, and the future of trans advocacy. Rodrigo is the inaugural Executive Director of Advocates for Trans Equality, the nation’s leading trans-led organization fighting for the legal and political rights of trans people in America.
